10 Tips to Help Your Truck Run Well Into Old Age - Part 2

4. Rotate your tires

Though you expose all tires to the same conditions, the wear and tear on each of them will be different due to the truck’s drivetrain. Usually, the front tires wear out first and the most. Worn tires can meddle with the suspension and alignment of the truck. When you change the oil in your truck, get the tires rotated. It will increase their life and provide a much better ride.

5. Balance the tires

Balancing tires is all about distributing their weight equally around the axle. As mentioned before, not all tires undergo the same amount of wear and tear. The same is true for balance. Get the balance in your tires checked when you rotate them or during a regular maintenance.

6. Check fluid levels

Besides oil, there are other fluids in your truck which need to be at certain levels in order to ensure a smooth ride. Check if the oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluids are at their optimum levels.

7. Make sure the alignment is correct

Misalignment is the result of driving at high speeds and on rough terrain. Even improper tire pressure can cause misalignment. It is noticeable when your truck begins pulling to one side while driving. This can cause your tires to wear out faster and cause problems such as poor handling and reduced fuel efficiency. Get the alignment checked when you are in for the truck’s maintenance.
