When purchasing a used car, it is important to take a look at the heavy fuel consumption and clutch wear as problems in high mileage used cars.
This is a problem that’s easy to catch. Thanks to extended service intervals and thin oil, there are plenty of high mileage cars with bad oil control rings and carbon accumulation. A lot of used car sellers will not bother to check oil levels during sale. It isn’t uncommon to find high mileage used cars with little to no oil.
In used cars with manual transmission, buyers need to inspect the clutch and the clutch pedal as well. A worn out clutch is an expensive item to repair with regard to both, parts and labor. So, watch out for wear in the clutch.
Take a look at the clutch pedal’s left side. This will tell you if the previous owner was resting his/her foot on the clutch pedal or not. If they were resting their foot on the clutch pedal, there’s bound to be issues.
Again, a test drive will come in handy here too. A test drive will tell you how the clutch operates. A worn out clutch will show noticeable signs of trouble.
