Ford F-250 vs Nissan Titan

Ford F-250 vs Nissan Titan

Full-size trucks serve as heavy-duty work transport and epitomize the US lifestyle, fulfilling the role of everyday commuter and weekend adventure vehicles. As always, we like to help our shoppers by sharing what these two trucks bring to the tailgate party as pre-owned buys.

Read on as we share details on what makes the Ford F-250 and Nissan Titan great pre-owned truck purchases.

Ford F250

The F-250 and Ford's other Super Duty trucks are dedicated heavy-duty variants of the Ford F-Series.

The F-250’s heavier-duty chassis includes fortified drive shafts, axles, brakes, towing hardware, and a 4WD transfer case.

Shoppers on the hunt for a good quality, lower mileage preowned example of the F-250 need only look far back as the last fourth generation produced from 2017 to 2022.

The F-250 has three cab options: Crew Cab, Regular Cab, and SuperCab. The trims lineup includes XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. The Limited trim joined the lineup for the 2018 model year.

Nissan Titan

The Japanese Nissan Titan is a strong contender for any truck buyer's attention. Produced in the US as of December 2003, the first version of the Titan was manufactured for an amazing 12 years with no major redesigns until Nissan released the second generation Titan in 2016.

The second-generation Nissan Titan was given a makeover in 2020 to keep the Titan current.

However, Nissan has chosen to discontinue their full-size Titan truck after the 2024 model year as it plans to invest massively in the current Nissan Titan plant to spearhead its EV production of new electric sedans and crossovers.

These changes don't mean it's a bad truck; the latest ratings from J.D. Power awarded the 2022 Nissan Titan a "Great" Quality and a Reliability score of 85 out of 100.

Shoppers of this current and last generation of Titan trucks can choose from a strong trims lineup, including S, SV, SV Midnight Edition, PRO-4X, and range-topping Platinum Reserve.

Powerful Powertrains and Performance

The fourth-gen F-250 is fitted with either a 6.2-liter V8 producing 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque or a 6.7-liter turbo diesel V8 producing 450 horsepower and a whopping torque figure of 935 pound-feet.

A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, driving the rear wheels or an available all-wheel drive system.

Shoppers looking for serious towing capabilities will appreciate the maximum towing capacity of up to 17,600 lbs.

Not to be outdone in the power stakes, Nissan's Titan makes good use of a 5.6-litre V8 gasoline engine, producing up to 400 horsepower and torque of 413 pound-feet coupled with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission fitted from 2020.

Buyers who prefer the grunt of diesel power plants will do well to consider examples of the Titan produced up to 2019 that are fitted with a 310-hp Cummins 5.0-litre turbo diesel V8 that produces a mighty 555 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic Aisin transmission.

Titan trims feature either standard rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.

The Nissan Titan's maximum towing capacity is 9,290 pounds, and shoppers looking for more must consider the heavy-duty Titan XD, which will tow up to 11,050 pounds when properly equipped.

Tough Exteriors

Produced as a two-door Regular Cab, four-door SuperCab, or four-door Crew Cab riding on a . chassis frame of 95% high-strength steel, the F-250 body is constructed with high-strength military grade aluminum alloy that is rust-resistant and lightweight.

The F-250 sports plenty of exterior features such as auto on/off reflector halogen headlights, daytime running lights, a black front bumper with a black rub strip, a fascia accent along with two tow hooks.

The manual side mirrors can be folded, and the rear features a black step bumper, a handy cargo lamp, and a high-mount stop light for added safety.

The current 2016 and onwards Nissan Titan, available in three different cab styles: a two-door regular cab, a four-door King (extended) Cab, and a four-door crew cab, hasn't seen any changes and is available as a regular or XD heavy-duty version.

XD versions of the Titan are built on a heavy-duty frame from Nissan's commercial vehicles.

The new Titan offers more macho looks than that of the older version. Both regular Titan trims and the XD trims share a styling theme but differing large and bold chrome front grilles with active grille shutters that help reduce aerodynamic drag. Bulging front fenders and lightly sculpted body sides break up the otherwise vast area of flat sheet metal.

Standard features include:

  • Daytime running lights
  • Fog lights
  • Black bumpers and door handles
  • Black exterior mirrors
  • Halogen headlights
  • Splash guards
  • Rear privacy glass
  • Rear Sliding window

Interior

The functional cabin of the F-250 features a comprehensive specs list, including the following:

  • Heavy duty Vinyl 40/20/40 Split Bench Seat with center armrest, cupholder, storage, and driver's side manual lumbar

Infotainment sees Ford's SYNC 4 system doing duty with an eight-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen. Standard are the AM/FM Stereo radio, four speakers, plus two LCD Monitors for the front passengers.

Connectivity includes wireless phone connection, cloud connectivity, AppLink with app catalog, 911 Assist, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a digital owner's manual.

The Nissan Titan offers drivers and passengers comfy zero-gravity front seats, heated and cooled front seats, and a choice of water-repellant fabric or durable leather appointments. The driver gets a seven-inch programmable information display, and the shift lever is on the steering column.

Handy storage space is the large center console with two deep bins and a wide center armrest.

Infotainment equipment includes an eight-inch center touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto on all trims. Connecting to the audio system is aided by two illuminated USB ports and two charge-only USB ports on the back of the center console.
