The Duramax diesel engine puts out 397 horsepower and 765 pounds per foot of torque, making it the most powerful Sierra ever built. Meanwhile, having the option between a 6-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual transmission is a unique benefit to the GMC Sierra over other heavy duty trucks made before 2017.

Across all trims, your engine options can include:

• A 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel I-6 engine that generates 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque
• A 6.4-liter V-8 engine that generates 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque
• Or a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that generates 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque

Trim Levels

Trim levels include a Sierra base model (1SA), as well as SLE, SLT and Denali, which accounts for approximately half of Sierra HD crew cab retail sales It matches capability with an exclusive package of design cues and upscale interior amenities.

Exterior

Interior

The GMC Sierra 2500HD includes a large center console and an available wireless charging pad. The vehicle has the available soft-touch instrument panel, and door trim, aluminum trim accents, steering wheel, and center console. Leather-appointed seating surfaces and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are also available. The Sierra’s interior is roomy, surprisingly quiet and exceedingly functional. Nearly two-thirds of the cab is made of high-strength steel, while shear-style body mounts are used to tune out both up-and-down and side-to-side movement for a noiseless, comfortable ride. Both the double and crew cab models have a set of hydraulic body mounts to further isolate their cabs.

Looking at the dash, the instrument panel has an intuitive six-gauge cluster. Standard models include a 3.5-inch driver information center display in the middle of the instrument cluster, with a 4.2-inch color driver information center display, for vehicle data and entertainment, standard on SLE, SLT, and Sierra Denali. Ambient lighting highlights all functional areas, such as the “4x4” and headlamp switches, as well as the radio, for easier viewing at night.

All models have extensive interior storage, tailored to the way customers use their trucks. The centre console – available on vehicles with front bucket seats – offers nearly 1 cubic foot of combined storage space, with the depth and width to conceal a laptop computer. Additionally, the locking console accommodates hanging files for owners who use their truck as a rolling office, as well as controls for overhead ambient lighting, map pockets along the side, movable cup holders and reconfigurable compartments. For the Sierra HD, GMC created a new steering system smart enough to tailor its response to your unique driving situation, in real time. New available Digital Steering Assist senses speed (particularly important when trailering) to enable ease of handling at low speeds and improved steering feel at highway speeds. It also changes when the Tow/Haul button is activated, providing additional assist at low speeds and less at highway speeds. No other competitor offers this luxury to reduce driver fatigue and enhance control.

• Trailer Sway Control: Keep both Sierra HD and your trailer heading in the same direction, automatically. Sensors help detect a swaying trailer, and the system helps bring it back in line by applying both the truck and the trailer’s brakes (when properly equipped).
• Trailer Brake Control: For control and easy monitoring of your trailer brakes, Sierra HD offers an available integrated trailer brake controller. It’s located high and in easy reach of the steering wheel for quick adjustments and is included on SLE, SLT, Denali and 3500HD models.
• Rear Vision Camera System: The center screen serves as your monitor for the available Rear Vision Camera System. Its dynamic grid lines help when backing up or hitching a trailer.
• A Specific Mode for Hauling and Towing: To accelerate when trailering or hauling heavy loads, Tow/Haul mode raises transmission upshift points. It also raises downshift points using engine compression to help slow your Sierra HD instead of merely braking.
• Hill Start Assist: To give you extra time to switch from the brake pedal to the accelerator on a 5 percent grade or more, Hill Start Assist holds the brakes momentarily to help prevent rolling back when Sierra HD is on an incline.
• Transmission Temperature Gauge: This tool allows you to monitor the transmission fluid operating temperature in real time.

• Impressive Trailering: One-ton dual-rear-wheel models offer an available class-leading conventional trailering of up to 20,000 lbs1 when equipped with a Duramax turbo diesel. And depending on the model and equipment, 3500HD can tow a maximum of up to 23,200 lbs1 with a gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitch.
• Premium Trailering Mirrors: The available heated, power-adjustable trailering mirrors include segment-first LED rear guidance lamps. The lamps are integrated into each mirror to enhance trailer visibility when backing up. Also included are amber auxiliary clearance lamps. When equipped on All Terrain, SLT and Denali models, the mirrors include driver memory and can also power-fold to help with car washes and other tight places.
