We'll cover a few previous generations and what trims and packages they offer to anyone in the used truck market, so stick around!

Trims On The RAM 3500 Through The Years

Regarding the trims for a RAM 3500, your 2024 lineup has seven unique models, including the Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. Your top-tier RAM 3500 is the Limited, while the Tradesman is your entry-level model.

For 2023, the 3500 saw six trim levels:

  • Tradesman
  • Big Horn
  • Laramie
  • Rebel
  • Longhorn
  • Limited

Inside the basic Tradesman RAM 3500, you have a standard V8 engine, cloth seating, and a 5-inch Uconnect infotainment system. At the same time, the highest trim level, Limited, boasts either a 6.4-liter V8 engine or a 6.7-liter 6-cylinder diesel configuration and between 370 and 410 horsepower.

The Limited RAM 3500 also offers a premium 8.4-inch infotainment display, standard leather interior trim, keyless ignition, and an extensive on-suite of safety and driver-assistance technology.

2022 also saw five familiar trim levels, including the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited models. So, we've continued to have more trucks introduced to the lineup per release year. 2021 was the same story as 2022, as was 2020. Therefore, you have a consistent set of options until 2023 and 2024 RAM 3500 pickups.

Ram 3500 Trims Compared

Now that you have an idea of which model years have what trims available, it's worth diving deeper into each one's specs. We'll use 2023 for our trim comparison, totaling six unique vehicles.

Tradesman

This entry-level RAM 3500 offers a standard V8 engine, cloth seating, and a 5-inch Uconnect infotainment system. You can choose between a six- or eight-speed automatic transmission for this pickup truck and enjoy 14,580 to 15,120 pounds of towing capacity. All for under $50,000, this is a decent option for base-level shoppers wanting a high-performance vehicle.

Big Horn

Your next RAM 3500 trim level is the Big Horn, boasting things like an 8.4-inch touchscreen display and a power-sliding rear window on top of Tradesman's standard features. This is a nice jump from your entry Tradesman trim with a nicer set of tech features. Your engine will be the same, either a 6.4-liter V8 or a 6.7-liter 6-cylinder diesel.

Laramie

Moving up a trim, we have the RAM 3500 Laramie model, offering upgrades like leather upholstery and heated/ventilated seating. This vehicle also adds a 12-inch touchscreen display, making it an excellent choice for technology-driven shoppers. You still have the same engine as the other 3500 trims, although the towing capacity rises between 14,350 and 14,980, depending on the configuration.

Rebel

Kicking things up a notch, the Rebel trim boasts off-roading specs, including all-terrain tires, skid plates, and an adjustable air suspension. This version of the RAM 3500 pickup truck is the best choice for off-road driving and those wanting to explore more places in their vehicle. 2023 marked the introduction of this trim, and has since been a significant shift in the image of 3500.

Longhorn

The next trim level for the 2023 RAM 3500 is the Longhorn model. With this truck, you see details, including heated and cooled cup holders, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and higher-quality interior trim materials. Across the board, the Longhorn has been one of the most popular versions of the 3500, mainly due to its upscale feel.

Limited

Finishing your list of trims for 2023, the Limited RAM 3500 offers an extensive on-suite of driver-assistance and safety features, a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine standard, a 10-speaker stereo system, keyless ignition, front and rear cupholders, leather steering and trim, as well as endless other comfort upgrades. Consider this trim the creme de la creme of the 3500 family.

RAM 3500 Available Packages

For the newer generations of RAM 3500, a few packages are available for this pickup truck lineup, each offering something unique for owners. As of this year, you have two packages to choose from: Sport Appearance Package and Night Edition Package.

Sport And Night Editions For Your RAM 3500

Moving onto packages for a RAM 3500 for owners, there is the 'Sport Appearance Package,' boasting a monochromatic exterior, sleek sports performance hood (Laramie® models only), black interior accents, and RAM Heavy-Duty performance.

It's also worth noting that the Sport Appearance Package is only available to Big Horn, Lone Star, and Laramie models.

Another package you can choose for 2023, and 2024 RAM 3500 models is the Night Edition, boasting a monochromatic body color with all-black accents, giving this pickup truck a sleek appearance.

This upgrade is available to 2500 and 3500 Limited, Laramie, and Big Horn/Lone Star models and blacks out your vehicle's interior. It's known for being one of the more unique upgrades RAM offers, color-wise, so if you are into a dramatic ride, go with Night Edition.

RAM 3500 Performance

When buying a pre-owned RAM 3500, some model years outperform others. More recent 2019-2024 models boast standard 410 gas horsepower and a payload capacity of up to 7,680 pounds when equipped with the 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine. The RAM 3500 pickup has always been one of your strongest options in the pickup segment, and thanks to Cummins, it will continue outperforming much of the competition.

Older generations, like the 2018 RAM 3500s, saw less horsepower due to their 5.7-liter V-8 engines that came standard. That said, even then, you could upgrade to the available 6.4-liter V-8 that produces 410 horsepower (370 horses with the Mega Cab).

Overall, this truck, new or pre-owned, is a beast on the road. It's made to go the distance without lacking performance.
