America’s Stonehenge Is Beautiful & Mysterious

Who built America’s Stonehenge? Indigenous peoples or a migrant European population? No one knows for sure. Our Ford of Branford staff loves the beauty and mystery of America’s Stonehenge in nearby Salem, a little over 45 miles away.

What We Do Know
#America'sStonehenge is considered to be the oldest man-made construction in the United States. The structure is estimated to be over 4,000 years old. America’s Stonehenge includes a maze of man-made chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places. Like Stonehenge in England, America's Stonehenge was built by ancient people who were experts in astronomy and stone construction. The site was designed as an accurate astronomical calendar and can be used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year. Various inscriptions in Ogham, Phoenician and Iberian Punic Script

have been found throughout the site. Dr. Barry Fell of Harvard University has written a book about the extensive work he did on the inscriptions found at the site.

Alpacas at America’s Stonehenge & Wool for Sale
America's Stonehenge is also home to seven friendly #alpacas. You’re invited to visit the herd and learn more about these interesting animals.
