And you probably don’t know that wind resistance caused by driving faster also costs you money—for every five miles per hour you drive over 60, you add a dime to the price of every gallon of gas you buy.
If an engine is poorly tuned, it can increase fuel consumption by up to 50%. Routine tune-ups and maintenance (like changing air and oil filters) will help you burn less gas, pollute less and prevent car trouble. Be sure to use the right grade of oil for your vehicle, as well.
Remove The Junk From Your Trunk
It’s wise to avoid carrying extra weight around in your vehicle. It’s saps your fuel economy, so unless you’re planning on golfing that day, leave your clubs at home.
Did you know 36% of vehicles are driven with tires below the recommended psi (pounds per square inch?) If your tires are underinflated, your car’s fuel efficiency will be reduced by 2% for each pound that your tires are underinflated.
