How you use your SUV changes from day to day and maybe even trip to trip if your family is always on the go. With a Chevrolet Tahoe, you’ll have a quiet and comfortable ride in an SUV spacious enough for nine passengers and their belongings. Well, quiet until everyone starts using the entertainment features. With a great variety of safety features, impressive towing, and upgrades like a hands-free programmable power liftgate we know the Tahoe will suit the needs of most families in our area.
A 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission come standard in the 2016 Tahoe and adjacent model years put up very comparable numbers. A Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is paired with the 5.3L engine and contributes to enhanced fuel efficiency of the 2016 model. It also features TapShift control, Tow/Haul mode, and Auto Grade Braking for when you’re towing or hauling heavy loads.
Properly equipped, a modern Tahoe is able haul a payload of 1,700 lbs and tow up to 8,600 lbs. That means whether you’re looking to pack up everyone’s stuff for an extended camping trip in the SUV, tow your camper behind you, or both, you’re covered with the Chevy Tahoe. Fuel efficiency is always an important factor to consider alongside performance. Luckily, the Tahoe's fuel economy is improved by Active Fuel Management, which deactivates four of the Tahoe's eight cylinders when they aren't needed.
All 2016 and later Tahoe SUVs, including both 2WD and 4WD models, feature an updated front suspension design and a five-link coil-spring suspension design, which gives you a smoother ride and more precise handling than previous models. The LTZ trim has adaptive suspension which delivers a smoother ride and better handling. The electric-assisted power steering feels precise across all trim levels, which is something our customers find useful when piloting a vehicle this size.
Safety, alongside space and performance, is the primary focus of modern Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs. The base model Tahoe offers the standard technologies you would hope to see in a modern SUV: cruise control, anti-lock brakes, electric power steering, and stability control. This is, of course, alongside 6 different kinds of airbags: Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Side Head Airbag, Rear Body Airbag, Side Airbag, and Rear Head Airbag.
Lane Keep Assist comes standard on LT and LTZ models and is a popular feature with our customers. Using a lane detect camera on the windshield lane assist kicks on when you aren’t using a turn signal and the vehicle can’t detect active steering. By gradually turning the wheel as your SUV is about to reach a lane marking, the safety system can help keep you safe before you’ve even noticed an issue.
Another popular feature on the LT and LTZ models is MyLink from Chevrolet, which makes it easy to use your mobile device hands free. Side Blind Zone Alert uses radar technology to sense cars in an adjacent lane. This warning is an amber light on side mirrors. There is also a rear cross traffic alert which detects vehicles behind the car to the right and left. That warns the driver by pulsating their seat. The windshield will also display an alert to warn you when you’re following too close to a vehicle, in addition to automatically braking as soon as a collision is detected.
With 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 51.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 94.7 cubic feet with both rows folded down flat, the Tahoe can handle nearly any errand you throw its way. Keeping the third row down is a popular option for campers and professionals who use their Tahoe to haul tools, materials, and more.
The Tahoe's front seats provide all-day comfort on lengthy trips and with equally comfortable seats in the back, along with entertainment systems for everyone, you’re well-equipped for even the longest drives. The second-row bench is roomy and comfortable for most everyone while the third row on some Tahoe SUVs is best suited for smaller passengers. With a quiet cabin on the highway and excellent outward visibility, you’ve got an SUV ready for any adventure.
Optional features include a leather upholstery, a power tilting and telescoping steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, power-folding back rows, power sunroof, push-button start, navigation, a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, heads-up display, and adaptive cruise control. We’ve seen plenty of Tahoe SUVs on our lot include all of these features and they often go fast when they do.
The Tahoe is a classic Chevrolet design and instantly recognizable, setting you apart from other SUVs. A large grill features a prominent bowtie emblem.
Inlaid doors fit into the body side openings instead of over the top of the body, significantly improving the quietness of the interior cabin and contributing to improved aerodynamics – which helps reduce drag for greater fuel efficiency. The lightweight aluminum hood and liftgate panels also help on both fronts.
Colors include summit white, silver ice metallic, brownstone metallic, siren red tintcoat, tungsten metallic, black, and more. Models come with a variety of 18-22 inch polished aluminum and chrome wheels, all of which look impressive against the available body colors.
Most modern Tahoe SUVs come in three trim levels: LS, LT, and LTZ. What’s the difference between these models?
The standard 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission are paired with 18" aluminum wheels, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, tri-zone automatic climate control with an individual setting for the driver, 4.2-inch diagonal multifunction color display, rearview camera, rear-seat entertainment, remote start, and trailering equipment. It also includes automatic wipers, heated mirrors, an integrated driver blind spot mirror, side assist steps, roof rails, rear privacy glass, rear parking sensors, power front seats (eight-way driver seat and four-way passenger seat, both with two-way power lumbar), a 60/40-split-fold second-row bench seat, a 50/50-split fold-flat third-row seat and a leather-wrapped tilt-only steering wheel.
The LT trim comes with everything on the LS plus Power-adjustable pedals with memory Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Safety Alert Driver’s Seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather front bucket seats with heated seat cushions and backs, and a Bose® premium 9-speaker audio system with subwoofer in center console. The Z71 Off-Road package was paired with some four-wheel-drive LT models and includes 18-inch alloy wheels with off-road tires, front and rear parking sensors, an upgraded suspension, skid plates, fog lights, hill descent control, a high-capacity air cleaner and assorted Z71-specific trim pieces. A Max Trailering package was also included across all trim levels and features specific gearing, a trailer-brake controller and air suspension with increased load capacity and leveling. Of course, this package would be incomplete without a variety of available 20- and 22-inch wheels.
The top trim level adds contents of the LT Luxury package plus a magnetic adaptive suspension, xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, 20" polished-aluminum wheels, hands-free power liftgate, Heated and cooled front bucket seats with 12-way power adjusters, and a Bose® Centerpoint® Surround Sound premium 10-speaker audio system.
A 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, five USB ports, HD Radio, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a Wi-Fi hot spot and an touch-screen infotainment system.
The 8-inch-diagonal color touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay, along with Android Auto in some models, making it a breeze to use your phone for navigation, entertainment, and communication on the go. Available OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected, though it does cost a monthly fee.
An included Five years of OnStar Basic Plan means many of these SUVs will still have RemoteLink Key Fob Services, allowing owners to remotely start and lock/unlock a car (if properly equipped), and activate the horn and lights from anywhere as long as they have a data connection. It also includes diagnostics which runs a monthly check of the vehicle’s essential systems, like the engine, transmission, anti-lock brakes and more.
