The GMC Sierra 1500 has several engine options. The base engine is a 4.3 liter, 285-horsepower, V6, EcoTec3 FlexFuel-Capable gasoline one. A 2.7 liter, 310 horsepower, turbocharged Inline-4 engine featuring cylinder deactivation for powering the mid-level trims. Other available engines include a 5.3 liter, 355-horsepower, EcoTec3 V8 that's FlexFuel-Capable and uses an Active Fuel Management system or a Dynamic Fuel Management system. A 6.2 liter, 420-horsepower, V8, EcoTec3 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management is an option on the top trims. Plus, there's an available 3.0 liter, 277-horsepower turbocharged I6 Diesel engine. The engines are mated with a 6, 8, or 10-speed automatic transmission and comes with either two-wheel or four-wheel-drive.

The base engine of the GMC Sierra 2500HD powertrain is a 6.0 liter, 360 horsepower, V8 that produces 380 pound-feet of torque. A 6.2 liter, 420 horsepower, V8, EcoTec3 engine that produces 460 pound-feet of torque working in tandem with a 10-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission is available. There's also the option to get a 6.6 liter, 445 horsepower, V8, intercooled turbo diesel engine that delivers an outstanding 910 pound-feet of torque and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with OD and auto-manual.

Towing And Hauling

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a powerful light-duty pickup truck. It has a towing capacity of 12,200 pounds, plus it can haul as much as 2,240 pounds of payload. However, the GMC Sierra 2500HD with its towing capacity of 16,100 pounds and maximum hauling capacity of 3,964 pounds is a better choice when you need to do heavy-duty work.
