Comparing the F-250, F-350, and F-550 Trucks

Most of our customers have driven or ridden a Ford F-150 plenty of times. However, we’ve noticed a much smaller crowd has felt the power of the Ford F250, F-350, and F-550 pickups firsthand-- well, at least those who aren’t already avid F-Series owners. Below we have a quick breakdown of what you can expect from each truck.

Ford F-250

Most of our Ford F-250 models come with a 6.2-liter 2-valve Flex Fuel V8 engine offering 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft. of torque or a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine providing 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft. of torque. With either option, you’ll be able to haul payloads between 3,000 to 4,000 lbs, helping you conquer nearly project on the jobsite in no time. Most can also two between 12,000 to 13,000 lbs the moment they drive off the lot, giving you plenty of options when it comes to trailers for work and play. Getting a 4x4 model can push that max towing capacity up to 15,000 pounds on select configurations, which is something we know our customers won't take for granted.

Beyond basic performance, you need a truck that will help you with a variety of situations in and out of work. If you need to keep things plugged in while you’re outside, many newer models offer a 110-volt/400-watt conventional AC plug-in outlet in the truck bed to power up the tools you need wherever you go. Safety features certainly aren’t in short supply, with available options including Trailer Reverse Guidance, Adaptive Steering System, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, and more depending on the model you pick up. It is available with a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain and has three different cab configurations (regular, super and crew). Each cab configuration offers plenty of legroom upfront and a good amount of cargo space throughout the truck. Plus, you can rely on the latest entertainment options to take the edge off your toughest days at work.

Ford F-350

When it comes to power, the F-350 is a step up from the F-250, coming with a 6.2-liter 385 horsepower Triton V8 engine with 430 lb-ft. of torque or a 6.7-liter turbo 440 horsepower V8 Powerstroke diesel engine with an impressive 925 lb.-ft. of torque. With the ability to haul payloads between 3,700 to 7,000 lbs, it’s hard to imagine many situations where you would need more power than a maxed out F-350 can provide. Most can also two between 12,000 to 17,000 lbs the moment they drive off the lot, giving you plenty of options when it comes to trailers for work and play. Getting 4x4 model can push that up to 18,000 pounds of towing capacity on select configurations.

The F-350 is offered as either a single rear-wheel (SRW) or a dual rear-wheel (DRW) pickup and we often see both models roll through our lot. The F-350 does more than just add raw power. It has safety features are similar to that of the F250, with available options including SecuriLock® Passive Anti-Theft System, Trailer brake controller with smart trailer, Trailer Reverse Guidance, Adaptive Steering System, and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. In addition you can enjoy comfortable interior seats with plenty of cargo space in the cab regardless of whether you choose regular, super, or crew.

Many of these trucks are also equipped with fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch kits. Ford F-550

Of course, the Ford F-550 is one of the most powerful options on the market. And with features like adaptive cruise control and collision warning, the F-550 is a work truck worthy of 21st century drivers. If you're interested in maximizing your vehicle performance on the job site at an affordable price, a pre-owned Ford F-550 is a great choice for you.

A 6.8-liter Triton 3-Valve gas 288 horsepower V10, 6.2-liter 2-Valve gas 385 horsepower V8, and 6.7L Power Stroke 330 horsepower V8 Turbo diesel are your options for the powerful engine in your F-550. These pickups can handle a max payload of 12,750 lbs. It can also handle 21,000 lbs with conventional towing with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 40,000 lbs. Impressively, you can boost that towing capacity to 34,000 when you have a fifth wheel and gooseneck hitch.

Available technology and safety features include nearly everything you can find on the 250 and 350.
